We are thrilled to announce that for the 2024-2025 running season, we are expanding our coaching team at Team Soul Running! Please join us in welcoming Ben and Marlene, a dynamic husband-and-wife duo who have been dedicated members of Team Soul for nine years.
Meet Ben and Marlene
Ben and Marlene’s journey together began back in 2010 when they met while training for the Miami Full Marathon. Four years later, they tackled the Ragnar Relay, a grueling 100-mile race from Key Biscayne to Key West, cementing their passion for endurance sports. Since then, they’ve competed in numerous endurance and CrossFit competitions both together and individually.
Marlene’s Background:
Marlene’s love for running is unwavering. She has completed seven full marathons, over 15 half marathons, Spartan races, and several triathlons, including a Half-Ironman and Olympic distance events. Marlene is a firm believer in the benefits of staying active as you age and is passionate about encouraging everyone to move, whether by running, walking, or jogging. She understands how daunting it can be to start running and is eager to support and guide you through your journey.
Ben’s Background:
Ben began his CrossFit journey 13 years ago to enhance his marathon and endurance race training. As a former running and endurance coach at CrossFit Lux, Ben brings a wealth of knowledge to Team Soul. He has participated in various races, from 5Ks to full marathons, Spartan races, and distance swimming events. Ben emphasizes the importance of a balanced mix of strength training and running for endurance athletes to reach their full potential.

Enhanced Coaching and Structured Training
In addition to our expanded coaching team, we are introducing more structure to our running program! We’re launching weekend group distance runs, fun kickoff events, team meetings, and more. This isn’t your average “run club.” In true Team Soul fashion, we are doubling down on education, training, technique, and strategies to make running a more enjoyable experience. Our goal is to equip everyone with the tools they need to become the best runners they can be.
Weekend Group Runs
Our weekend runs are all listed below, with locations varying based on our focus for each session—whether it’s distance, pace, bridge running, technique, testing, or tempo runs. We will accommodate all paces, including walkers and joggers, ensuring everyone has a place in our community.
Dedicated Running Conversations
We are moving our running discussions from the Team Soul Gym WhatsApp community group to a dedicated Team Soul Running group. Here, our coaches will share best practices, how to integrate CrossFit with running, weekend run locations, nutrition tips, answer your questions, help with pacing, and much more.
Upcoming Running Events and Training Plans
For those currently following or using Team Soul Running workouts, your program will continue until we start our Zoo Run 5k prep on September 23rd. Below is our running plan for the full year, including group run dates and kickoff events!
Training Plan and Key Dates
Zoo Run 5k, 10k, and Kids Dash – November 2, 2024:
6-week 5k prep starts on September 23rd.
Turkey Trot 5k, 10k, and Kids Race – November 28, 2024:
4-week 10k prep starts on November 4th.
If starting with the Zoo Run, we advise the 10k Turkey Trot and then continuing to the 305 Half Marathon prep.
305 Half Marathon and 5k – March 2, 2025:
12-week half marathon prep starts on December 9th.
If joining for the 305 Half, follow the 5k program 4 weeks before the race.
Program Design
Our running and assistance program is available on the SugarWOD app under ‘Team Soul Running.’ Non-members can subscribe by clicking here. The program includes warm-ups, assistance exercises focused on runners, and core exercises.
Kickoff Events and Group Runs
Join us for two fun group runs and a kickoff meeting!
Fun Group Runs + Meeting Kickoff:
White Rose Coffee Run: Sunday, August 18th, 9:00am. Meet at White Rose at 8:30am. 3 mile run (there will be modifications for beginners or those who need changes – THIS IS FOR ALL LEVELS). We will hand out Palm Film disposable cameras for the August 18th and 30th runs!
Tropical Run/Lincoln’s Hangout: Sunday, September 15th. 7am meet up at the north end of the Tropical Park track. 5k run or 40 minute run/walk. Modifications for ALL LEVELS. Lincoln’s Beard Post Run Hangout at noon. Free beer ticket for those attending. Turn in all disposables for a photo reveal on September 22nd.
Kickoff Meeting and Photo Reveal: Sunday, September 22nd at Soul. Official program start date is September 23rd.
