Ready to shake off winter and get back on the water as the season unfolds?
Spring rowing at CMI calls experienced rowers to navigate crisp mornings, restless winds, and challenges of early-season waters —each stroke drives through the chilly but charming waters as Cohasset Harbor slowly awakens on its way to summer's rhythm and energy.
This is a very casual season for experienced rowers without the organization and "valet" services of summer.
Variable Conditions: Dress in layers to handle cold water, changing weather, and shifting tides.
Self-Sufficiency: Rowers & Coxn show up at start time together to open boathouse, rig boats, lift and launch boats. No shore manager on duty.
Time slots are 1.5 hours start to finish that includes prep, lift & launch, rowing, then clean-up & lock-up of the boathouse. Actual time rowing will depend on everyone's help & the day's conditions.
Use the Calendar below to book & pay $25 per row. Calendar also available on Zen Planner app and Members>Calendar has month view
These are individual rower sign ups, not by crew, but you can certainly encourage other experienced CMI rowers to sign up too.
Each session offers 8 seats plus 2 waitlist spots.
Reach out to others if your slot has <4 rowers - otherwise the row may be canceled.
Additional coxswains or boats may be added if interest is high.
If you can't make your row last minute, please try to fill your seat so others can still go out. (No-shows or last minute cancels might mean no credit or refund can be issued.)
Cancellations: CMI canceled sessions in advance will be removed from the calendar, and participants will be notified and credited/refunded.
Onsite Adjustments: Weather, wind, or tides may lead to last-minute changes.
Safety: All CMI boathouse and water safety policies apply. Credits for CMI canceled sessions remain on your account or can be refunded.
Weekdays: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays at 6:30 am, 8:00 am or 5:30 pm
Weekends: Saturday at 8:00 am
Spring rowing sessions are not guaranteed, but we always aim to proceed as planned, weather permitting.
Dress in layers – It will be cold to start but may warm up. Temps vary on the water from on land. Avoid loose shirts in the back due to sliding seats.
Footwear matters – Your feet will get wet and the ramp can be slippery. Wear water shoes, crocs, or old sneakers (no flip-flops).
Bring a reusable water bottle – No single-use bottles. We’re a carry-in/carry-out facility and strive to reduce waste.
Sun protection – Even in the colder weather wear sunblock, and bring cap with a visor, and/or sunglasses.
Leave valuables at home – CMI is not responsible for lost items. Only leave keys in the designated spot at the boathouse.
Parker Ave parking is very limited and requires a Cohasset All Facilities Sticker. Police do ticket for violations.
Sailing Club and Town Wharf parking also requires the sticker and should be reserved for sailors and fishermen.
Cohasset Lightkeepers lot is available only when there is no event AND a CMI Rower parking sign must be displayed on your dashboard each time you park there. Violators will be ticketed.
Border Street parking is open to all.
We highly encourage walking, biking, or carpooling whenever possible.

The weather is not in our control, and safety- yours and our staff's, drives our decisions. If CMI needs to cancel, due to unsafe conditions (dense fog, high wind) or a Harbor Master directive, we will notify as soon as we are able.
Sometimes these weather events are rarely predictable, and conditions can shift at the start of row, roll in during, or clear up so we can row. If you haven't heard from CMI, assume the row is on! Ergs are always available when the boathouse is open, so you can still get in a rowing workout.
If you can't make a row you signed up for please try to find a replacement from the Spring sublist so the others can still go. If it is last minute emergency please send an email to the coxn on the calendar. If no replacement can be found, it might be that we can't offer you a refund or credit.
To participate all rowers must have read and signed a CMI waiver and accepted the CMI safety policy. In addition we ask every rower to review the US Rowing Safety video. It's a staple for most rowing clubs as it covers important knowledge for on the water, on the land, weather indicators, and how to respond in an emergency.
